Responsibilities of each shift

Shift Leader Responsibilities

The Shift Leader is chosen by mutual agreement among all team members on patrol that night.  The shift leader’s role is to make final decisions when needed and to support the team with compassion and kindness throughout the shift, fostering teamwork and group involvement.   Additional responsibilities include:  

·       Decide which bags are to be taken on patrol (depending on weather and the number on patrol).

·       Lead in prayer before starting the patrol, on completion of the shift, and encourage prayer in the streets when appropriate.

·       Check that the room and building are locked before leaving the premises and double-lock the outer door.

·       Carry one of the radios and lead communication with CCTV / night teams if needed.

·       Assume overall responsibility for the safety of the patrol team and therefore, intervene if necessary, with group decisions to ensure safety is maintained.

·       Write shift report and either post on Facebook or email to Hazel Roberts (details on footer of report)

·       Allow and lead debrief / discussion that may be needed following the shift – notify coordinator if further follow-up is required.

·       Email David Holden-White for any cupboard stock requirements

·       Ensure building is secured on departure and key returned to key safe.

 

Team Responsibilities

·       Contact each other before the shift to arrange who is bringing snacks/milk and to address any concerns if needed.

·       On arrival, remove the key from the key safe to unlock.  Note that an additional key is located in the key safe to access the main front door if the usual entrance is inaccessible; this key should remain in the key safe.

·       Do not leave the outer door on the latch

·       Set up the Milsom room for the night using the table and chairs

·       Remove radios from chargers and turn on (channel 1)

·       Check yellow backpacks and restock if necessary

·       Stock up drinks bag

·       Each team member to carry a pair of disposable gloves, lollies and snack bars

·       Radio CCTV to sign on / off for the evening and to notify the number of those on shift.

 

At the End of Shift…

·       Turn off night radios and connect to base, doing the wobble test.

·       Plug in the mobile phone charger

·       Stock up backpacks for next shift and leave on top of the cupboard if very wet to dry

·       Return unused lollies/snack bars to the cupboard along with any parking permits
